സര്‍വവ്യാപിയായ ഈശ്വരചൈതന്യം വാമനരൂപത്തില്‍ ഭൂമിയില്‍ അവതരിച്ച നാളാണു തിരുവോണം. ആ ദിവസം നാം മഹാബലിയെയും മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിനെയും നമ്മുടെ വീടുകളിലേക്കും മനസ്സുകളിലേക്കും സ്വാഗതം ചെയ്യുന്നു. അതായത്, ഈശ്വരനോടുള്ള ഭക്തിയെയും മനുഷ്യനോടുള്ള സ്‌നേഹത്തെയും നമ്മുടെ ഹൃദയത്തില്‍ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കുന്നു എന്നര്‍ഥം. ഇവ രണ്ടും ജീവിതവിജയത്തിന് ആവശ്യമാണ്. തന്റെ വിജയവും പരാജയവും ഭൗതികമായ നേട്ടങ്ങളുമെല്ലാം ഈശ്വരനില്‍ സമര്‍പ്പിച്ച് ആ ശുദ്ധചൈതന്യവുമായി ഒന്നായിത്തീര്‍ന്ന മാനവന്റെ കഥയാണു മഹാബലിയുടേത്.
ഭൗതികസമ്പത്തിന്റെയും അധികാരത്തിന്റെയും സ്ഥാനമാനങ്ങളുടെയും വലിപ്പച്ചെറുപ്പം അനുസരിച്ചാണ് ഓരോരുത്തരേയും മഹത്വമുള്ളവരെന്നും അല്ലാത്തവരെന്നും നമ്മള്‍ വിലയിരുത്തുന്നത്. അവ നഷ്ടമായാല്‍ മഹത്വവും നഷ്ടമാകും. അത് ഭൗതിക നിയമം. എന്നാല്‍ ആത്മീയതയില്‍ അങ്ങനെയല്ല. 'ഞാന്‍, എന്റെത്' എന്നുള്ള ഭാവങ്ങള്‍ ഇല്ലാതാകുമ്പോഴാണ് ഒരാള്‍ മഹത്വമുള്ളവനാകുന്നത്. അപ്പോഴാണ് മനുഷ്യന്‍ ഈശ്വരനാകുന്നത്. സര്‍വവ്യാപിയായ വിഷ്ണുചൈതന്യത്തില്‍ ആത്മസമര്‍പ്പണം ചെയ്തപ്പോള്‍, മഹാബലി 'ഞാന്‍, എന്റെത്' എന്നീ അതിര്‍വരമ്പുകള്‍ക്ക് അതീതനായി പരമപദം അണഞ്ഞു എന്നതാണ് തത്വം.
എല്ലാം സമര്‍പ്പിച്ച മഹാബലിയെ എന്തുകൊണ്ടാണ് വാമനന്‍ പാതാളത്തിലേക്കയച്ചത് എന്ന് ചോദിക്കുന്നവരുണ്ട്. മനസ്സാണ് മനുഷ്യന്റെ ലോകം സുന്ദരവും വികൃതവുമാക്കുന്നത്. ആത്മസമര്‍പ്പണത്തിലൂടെ ബലിയുടെ അഹങ്കാരം പരിപൂര്‍ണമായി നശിച്ചു; മനസ്സ് പരിശുദ്ധമായി. അത്തരം മനസ്സിന് നരകവും സ്വര്‍ഗവും തുല്യമാണ്. അവര്‍ ചെല്ലുന്നിടമെല്ലാം പൂങ്കാവനമാകും, അവിടെ സുഗന്ധവും സൗന്ദര്യവും നിറയും. അവരുടെ സംസര്‍ഗം മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ മനസ്സിനെയും സ്വര്‍ഗതുല്യമാക്കും.ഒരു പ്രത്യേക സ്ഥലവും ഒരു പ്രത്യേക ജനതയും നല്ലതോ ചീത്തയോ അല്ല. നല്ലതും ചീത്തയും എവിടെയുമുണ്ട്. എല്ലാം നമ്മുടെ മനസ്സിനെ ആശ്രയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. മനഃശുദ്ധിയാണ് ജീ.വിതത്തെ ആഘോഷപൂര്‍ണമാക്കുന്നത്. അതില്ലാത്തവര്‍ക്ക് മറ്റ് എന്തൊക്കെയുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ഒരാഘോഷത്തിലും സന്തോഷം കണ്ടെത്താന്‍ കഴിയില്ല. മനഃശുദ്ധി കൈവരുമ്പോള്‍ ഉള്ളില്‍ ഉടലെടുക്കുന്ന പ്രേമമാണ് ആഘോഷത്തിന്റെ ഉറവിടം

 

സമത്വ സുന്ദര ഓണക്കാലം തിരികെ വരുമോ?

വീണ്ടും ചിങ്ങ മാസം വന്നെത്തി. മലയാള മാസമനുസരിച്ച് വീണ്ടും കേരളക്കരയില്‍ ഓണമെത്തി. മലയാളികള്‍ കാത്തിരുന്ന ദിവസങ്ങള്‍ നീണ്ടു നില്‍ക്കുന്ന ഓണാഘോഷങ്ങള്‍ തുടങ്ങുകയായി.
ജാതി, മത, വര്‍ണ ഭേദമന്യേ എല്ലാവരുടെയും ഉത്സവമാണ് ഓണം. ഹിന്ദുക്കള്‍, മുസ്ലിങ്ങള്‍, ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികള്‍, പണക്കാര്‍, പാവപ്പെട്ടവര്‍ അങ്ങനെ എല്ലതരക്കാരും ഒരേ ആവേശത്തോട്‌ കൂടി ഓണം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ഈ മതേതര സ്വഭാവ ഗുണം തന്നെ ഓണം എന്ന ഉത്സവത്തെ ഇന്ത്യുടെ നാനാത്വത്തില്‍ ഏകത്വം എന്ന ആശയത്തെ ഉയര്‍ത്തിപ്പിടിക്കുന്നു. നാനാ ജാതി മതസ്ഥര്‍ ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ആഹ്ലാദ നിമിഷങ്ങള്‍ ഒരു ഉത്സവതിലൂടെ പങ്കു വയ്ക്കുന്ന ഇത്തരം അവസരങ്ങള്‍ നയന മനോഹരം തന്നെയാണെന്ന് പറയേണ്ട കാര്യമില്ലല്ലോ.
വിളവെടുപ്പ് ഉത്സവം ആണ് പിന്നീട് ഓണം ആയി ആഘോഷിക്കുവാന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയതെന്നാണ് കരുതുന്നത്. നാട് ഭരിച്ചിരുന്ന മഹാബലി രാജാവ്‌ തന്റെ പ്രജകളെ വര്‍ഷാ വര്ഷം കാണാനെത്തുന്ന സമയമാണ് ഓണമായിട്ട് ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നതെന്നാണ് ഐതിഹം. മഹാബലി നാട് ഭരിച്ചിരുന്ന കാലത്ത് “കള്ളവുമില്ല കളിയുമില്ല, എല്ലോലമില്ല പൊളി വചനം” എന്നാണ് വര്ണിചിരുന്നത്. ഒരു നിമിഷം ഇപ്പോള്‍ നമ്മള്‍ ജീവിക്കുന്ന കാലത്തിലേയ്ക്ക്, രാജ്യം കടന്നു പോകുന്ന അവസ്ഥയിലേയ്ക്ക് ഒന്ന് നോക്കുക. ഇവിടെ കള്ളവും, അഴിമതിയും അരാജകത്വവും അല്ലാതെ നമുക്ക് മറ്റെന്തെന്ക്കിലും കാണാന്‍ കഴിയുമോ എന്ന് തന്നെ സംശയമാണ്. എന്ന് നമുക്ക് മഹാബലി ഭരിച്ചിരുന്ന ആ നല്ല കാലത്തേയ്ക്ക് തിരികെ പോകുവാന്‍ നമുക്ക് കഴിയുമോ?
ഈ ചോദ്യത്തിന് ഉത്തരം കിട്ടിയിട്ട് പോരെ നമ്മള്‍ ഉത്സവങ്ങള്‍ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്. അടുത്ത തലമുറയ്ക്ക് ജീവിക്കുവാന്‍ പ്രാപ്തമായ ഒരു സമൂഹം കെട്ടിപടുക്കുന്നതില്‍ ഇന്ന് ജീവിക്കുന്ന നമുക്കോരോരുത്തര്‍ക്കും കടമയില്ലേ? ഭാഷ, മതം, ജാതി ഇവയൊക്കെ മുന്നില്‍ നിറുത്തി സാധാരണ ജനങ്ങളെ ഭിന്നിപ്പിച്ചു ഭരണം നേടുന്ന ഭരണാധികാരികളെയും പാര്ടികളെയും നിങ്ങള്‍ കാണുന്നില്ലേ. കണ്ടിട്ടും നിങ്ങള്ക്ക് ഇതിനെതിരെ പ്രതികരിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയില്ലെന്നാണോ നിങ്ങള്‍ കരുതുന്നത്. എന്ക്കില്‍ നിങ്ങള്ക്ക് തെറ്റി. നിങ്ങള്ക്ക് പ്രതികരിക്കുവാനും നല്ല ഒരു ജനാധിപത്യ സമൂഹം കെട്ടിപടുക്കുവാനും കഴിയും.
നല്ല ജനപ്രതിനിതികളെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്നതിലൂടെ നല്ല ഭരണം നമുക്കു ഉറപ്പക്കാന്‍ കഴിയും. എന്നാല്‍ ഇപ്പോഴുള്ള അവസ്ഥയില്‍ നമ്മള്‍ പാര്‍ടി മാറി മാറി പരീക്ഷിച്ചിട്ടും ഫലം ഒന്ന് തന്നെയാണ്. എന്താണിതിനു കാരണം? രാജ്യത്തെ ബഹുഭൂരിപക്ഷം പാര്‍ടികളും അഴിമതിയില്‍ മുങ്ങിക്കുളിച്ചു നില്‍ക്കുകയാണ്. വന്‍ അഴിമതിയുടെ വിവരങ്ങളാണ് ദിനം പ്രതി നമ്മള്‍ അറിയുന്നത്. നിലവിലുള്ള ഏതു രാഷ്ട്രീയ പാര്‍ടി ഭരിച്ചാലും ഇത് തന്നെ അവസ്ഥ. ഇവിടെയാണ്‌ ഒരു മാറ്റം നമുക്കാവശ്യം.
ജനകീയ സമരങ്ങള്‍ ഉയര്‍ന്നു വരുന്ന ഇക്കാലത്ത്. നമുക്ക് പുതിയ മാറ്റത്തിനായി കാതോര്‍ക്കാം. അത് വഴി നമുക്ക് കൈമോശം വന്ന ആ പഴയ നല്ല കാലം തിരികെ കൊണ്ട് വരാന്‍ നമുക്ക് കഴിയും. സമത്വ സുന്ദര രാജ്യമായി നമുക്ക് മാറാം. എല്ലാ വിധത്തിലും വര്ഷം നിറയെ ഓണം ആഖോഷിക്കുവാന്‍ വരും തലമുറയ്ക്ക് സാധിക്കും വിധം, ആ മാറ്റത്തിനായ്‌ നമുക്കൊരുമിച്ചു പ്രയത്നിക്കാം.

MAKE ALL THE PROGRAMMES CENT PERCENT SUCCESS.

Dear Comrades,

1.      GDS Parliament March on11-12-2013 - AIPEU-GDS (NFPE) has decided to organise a massive Parliament March on 11th December 2013 demanding Departmentalisation, Civil Servant status and settlement of 32 point charter of demands.  All the affiliates of NFPE are requested to ensure participation of their members also in the Parliament March as a solidarity support to the cause of GDS.  All Circle/Divisional Secretaries are requested to mobilise maximum participation and extend full support to the AIPEU-GDS (NFPE) in making the Parliament March a grand success.  Please instruct those employees participating in the March to book their travel tickets well in advance.

2.      All India Trade Union Study Camp - Confederation -2013 November 15th & 16th (Friday & Saturday).

          Total quota allotted to NFPE is 80.  The Federal Secretariat meeting of NFPE held at Pushkar (Rajasthan) on 26-08-2013 has decided to ensure participation of delegates as follows:

          P3 - 30, P4 - 25, R3 - 10, R4 - 10, Postal Accounts - 5, Admin. Union - 5, SBCO - 3, GDS - 5, Casual Labour - 2, Civil Wing - 1.

          All General Secretaries are requested to allote quota to each circle and instruct the Circle Secretaries to ensure participation of delegates as per quota fixed, in the Trade Union Education Camp without fail.  This is most urgent please.

3.      All India Women’s Convention - New Delhi - 2013 November 25th & 26th (Monday & Tuesday).

          The quota allotted to NFPE is 65.  The Federal Secretariat meeting of NFPE held at Pushkar (Rajasthan) on 26-08-2013 has decided to ensure participation of delegates as follows:

          P3 - 25, P4 - 10, R3 - 10, R4 - 5, Postal Accounts - 5, Admn. Union -2, SBCO - 2, GDS - 5, Casual Labour - 1, Civil Wing - 1.

          All General Secretaries are requested to allote quota to each circle and instruct the Circle Secretaries to ensure participation of delegates as per quota fixed, in the Women’s Convention without fail.  This is urgent please.

4.      Strike Ballot - Indefinite Strike - Confederation:

          As a final step before embarking upon an indefinite strike, confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers has decided to conduct strike ballot on 2013 September, 25,26 &27th.  In the Postal & RMS Sector NFPE should take the initiative to make the programme cent percent success.  Sample ballot paper and Appeal along with 15 Point Charter of Demands are also published in the NFPE website and all websites of affiliates of NFPE.  Please translate the appeal and 15 point charter of demands into local langauge and give it to each and every employee before 23rd September, 2013.  On 25th, 26th and 27th September polling booths may be opened in the premises of offices at all centres and ballot boxes may be placed in the booth.  Each and every employee may be requested to cast their vote in the ballot paper by marking “Yes” or “No”.  It is a secret ballot and hence name of the employee need not be written in the ballot paper.  On completion of voting the boxes may be opened and votes counted by the office bearers.  The total number of employees voted, Number of votes infavour of indefinite strike (YES), Number of votes against indefinite strike (NO) etc. should be intimated to the NFPE CHQ through Circle Unions or Circle Co-ordinating Committees and also to Confederation CHQ through Confederation C-O-Cs.  Intensive campaign among the employees may be conducted before the strike ballot by distributing appeals, sample ballots, posters etc. and also by arranging meetings at all centres.

When we see number of beads in vara mala/vrata mala, number of names of God and Goddess, I always wondered there should be some prominence for 108 which I do not know. Why do we give so much importance to 108 in Hinduism? Why 108 is so sacred for Hindus? Here is a brief explanation of the use and importance of this number:

The diameter of the Sun is 108 times the diameter of the Earth.

The distance from the Sun to the Earth is 108 times the diameter of the Sun.

The average distance of the Moon from the Earth is 108 times the diameter of the Moon.

In Ayurveda, there are 108 “Marma” points that are vital for giving life to living beings.

The powerful Sri Chakra yantra intersects in 54 points each with a masculine and feminine quality, totalling to 108

In Indian astrology we have 12 houses and 9 plants. 12 times 9 equals to 108.

In Tantra, it is estimated that every day we breathe 21,600 times out of which 10,800 are solar energy and 10, 800 are lunar energy. Multiplying 108 X 100 is 10,800.

The famous saint Bharata wrote “The Natya Shastra” which has 108 karanas (Movement of hand and feet)

There are 54 letters in Sanskrit each can be mentioned as masculine (Shiva) and feminine (Shakti) aspect, totalling to 108.

There are 108 Puranas and 108 Upanishads.

9 times 12: Both of these numbers have been said to have spiritual significance in many traditions. 9 times 12 is 108. Also, 1 plus 8 equals 9. That 9 times 12 equals 108.

Powers of 1, 2, and 3 in math: 1 to 1st power=1; 2 to 2nd power=4 (2×2); 3 to 3rd power=27 (3x3x3). 1x4x27=108

Harshad number: 108 is a Harshad number, which is an integer divisible by the sum of its digits (Harshad is from Sanskrit, and means “great joy”)

Desires: 

There are said to be 108 earthly desires in mortals.

Lies: 

There are said to be 108 lies that humans tell.

Delusions: There are said to be 108 human delusions or forms of ignorance.

Heart Chakra: 

The chakras are the intersections of energy lines, and there are said to be a total of 108 energy lines converging to form the heart chakra. One of them, sushumna leads to the crown chakra, and is said to be the path to Self-realization.

Pranayama: 

If one is able to be so calm in meditation as to have only 108 breaths in a day, enlightenment will come.

Sri Yantra: 

On the Sri Yantra there are marmas where three lines intersect, and there are 54 such intersections. Each intersection has masculine and feminine, shiva and shakti qualities. 54 times 2 equal 108. Thus, there are 108 points that define the Sri Yantra as well as the human body.

Pentagon: 

The angle formed by two adjacent lines in a pentagon equals 108 degrees.

Time: 

Some say there are 108 feelings, with 36 related to the past, 36 related to the present, and 36 related to the future.

Astrology: 

There are 12 constellations, and 9 arc segments called namshas or chandrakalas. 9 times 12 equal 108. Chandra is moon, and kalas are the divisions within a whole.

River Ganga: 

The sacred River Ganga spans a longitude of 12 degrees (79 to 91), and latitude of 9 degrees (22 to 31). 12 times 9 equal 108.

Gopis of Krishna: 

There were said to be 108 gopis or maid servants of Krishna.

Some say that 1 stands for God or higher Truth, 0 stands for emptiness or completeness in spiritual practice, and 8 stands for infinity or eternity.

Some Buddhists carve 108 small Buddhas on a walnut for good luck. Some ring a bell 108 times to celebrate a new year. There are said to be 108 virtues to cultivate and 108 defilements to avoid.

Chinese: 

The Chinese Buddhists and Taoists use a 108 bead mala, which is called su-chu, and has three dividing beads, so the mala is divided into three parts of 36 each. Chinese astrology says that there are 108 sacred stars.

Stages of the soul: 

Said that Atman, the human soul or center goes through 108 stages on the journey.

Meru: 

This is a larger bead, not part of the 108. It is not tied in the sequence of the other beads. It is the guiding bead, the one that marks the beginning and end of the mala.

Praiseworthy souls: 

There are 108 qualities of praiseworthy souls.

Japan: 

In Japan, at the end of the year, a bell is chimed 108 times to finish the old year and welcome the new one. Each ring represents one of 108 earthly temptations a person must overcome to achieve nirvana.

108 signifies the wholeness of the divinity, perfect totality. So, let us follow what our ancestors told us to do.

Gmail – 45 Timesaving Keyboard Shortcuts

Gmail shortcuts are somewhat different than browser keyboard shortcuts for two main reasons:

1. Limits on Keystroke Choices: when using Gmail keyboard shortcuts you are working within a web browser so Gmail cannot duplicate any of the standard shortcut key combinations used by Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari or Opera web browsers;
2. Functions Vary by Location: Gmail shortcut functionality is based on your location within Gmail. Some shortcuts function only when reading a message or conversation, some work only when viewing conversation lists such as Inbox or All Mail, or viewing Contacts or Tasks.

Activating Gmail’s Keyboard Shortcuts
Before these shortcuts can be used you have to make sure that the Keyboard Shortcuts Setting for Gmail is set to “on” in Gmail Settings as shown here:

To help clarify how Gmail keyboard shortcuts are used they have been grouped below by functionality, such as Navigation, Selection, Management or General.
